Recruitment Advertising
Christmas-New Year is fast approaching, and traditionally recruitment advertising during this period is not cost-effective, especially in print. Some print media reduce their editions prior to and after this period. In addition, with the University’s closure for the Christmas-New Year break, end of year activities, summer holidays, and workplace closures, planning the timing of recruitment advertising will ensure you attract quality potential candidates who are looking for their next career move.
The last week for advertising in 2008 in the following major daily newspapers will be:
- The Australian (Higher Education) - Wednesday 10th December 2008
(all documentation needs to be completed and received in HR by 1 December at 12pm to proceed) - The Age - Saturday 13th December 2008
(all documentation needs to be completed and received in HR by 8 December at 12pm to proceed)
NOTE: the close date for applications must be carefully considered for any advertisements appearing on these dates.
Internet advertising (especially sites other than University of Melbourne website and the SEEK website) should also be reviewed in this context.

Payroll
To ensure staff are paid appropriately (casual and fortnightly) over the Christmas-New Year period, it is important to check the end of year payroll deadlines (date and cut off times) and ensure all paperwork (hard-copy or on-line) are received in the Human Resources Division by the times listed in the 2008 Payroll Processing Calendar (.pdf).
